Hunter Mountain Halfpipe Finals Day 1

Catskill Mountain Series Halfpipe Finals at Hunter Mountain Day 1

Spring time in the Catskills is a battle between the forces of nature, where blue skies and sunshine clash against the wind and rain in a duel to the death, waiting for Summer to arrive. For the CMS Halfpipe Finals at Hunter Mountain over the weekend this was no exception. After days of rain through out the week blue skies prevailed, as temperatures climbed into the high 40‘s, setting the stage for some fun in the sun. The park staff did a great job at getting the venue ready and keeping it on point through out the weekend.

Charlie Breest wins gold during Hunter Mountain Halfpipe.

Hunter ripper Charlie Breest (Lindenhurst, NY) took home a huge 1st place in the Junior Men’s division! It was only a matter of time before Breest was going to explode in the pipe, after coming to life mid-season. Here is an athlete with tenacity and presence during competitions. His style and form when riding shows confidence and commitment with every trick, making him fun to watch in both the Slopestyle and the Halfpipe. As the dust settles through out the leagues, we may see Breest at Nationals, congratulations Charlie on a job well done.

Jordan Saccoccie - Hunter Mountain Halfpipe

Jordan Saccaccie (Climax, NY) who is the overall Junior Men’s winner for the series finished 2nd behind Breest, despite landing a huge 540 and linking one of the best runs of the day. While Steve Bukowski edged out Donny Malone for 3rd place, as Malone struggled through falls in both runs.

For the Youth Men and a contender to win, Eric Buczek (Tannersville, NY) was a no show, turning it into a run and gun battle between Mike Buldo-Licciardi (River Vale, NJ) and local rider Danny Legg (Tannersville, NY). Buldo-Licciardi threw down huge airs, floaty spins and two textbook perfect runs and held the lead going into the second round. But Legg who sat down after a missed landing in his first run, pulled out a massive run during his second to ride away with the win. Danny is heading to Nationals for both the Slopestyle and Halfpipe.

Ira Futterknecht - Hunter Mountain Halfpipe

Skier Ira Futterknecht (Demarest, NY) had an awesome day turning world class runs, this kid is deadly in the pipe! Here is an athlete with amplitude, speed and strength, nailing his rotations, riding switch and stomping his landings to earn him the gold and the best ski run of the weekend. Futterknecht will be one to watch during Nationals. Other highlights included Silas Bowman (Monroe, NY) from the West Point Team, who took home the gold in his first ever pipe competition, and Austin Lamoreaux (Milfprd, PA) who nailed a cab 360s with big amplitude to win his division with a killer 2nd run.
